2008 marked the 350th Anniversary of Charles County, Maryland. As a result many celebrations were planned and a new book on the history of the county would be published. However, the history of the county would not be complete unless a key piece of information was found.

In the late summer of 2007 an amateur historian in Charles County, Maryland hired Diane L Giannini, CG to locate the land where the first courthouse in that county had been located. The courthouse at Moore’s Lodge had been missing for over two hundred and fifty years and had been deemed “impossible to find.”
With little information at hand, the research began. By the first week in December, Diane was certain that she had found the land where the first courthouse had been located.

A team of professionals including a surveyor, archeologists and others had proven by June 2008 that the Moore’s Lodge courthouse had been located on the tract of land which Diane had found.
| The Courthouse site can be divided into two areas, including the courthouse and the dwelling of Thomas Hussey. Hussey operated an Ordinary or inn for courthouse patrons out of his dwelling. Hussey's residence is probably one of the "Ould houses" shown on the 1697 plat of the courthouse lands.
